WW2 Experimental Ramjet Fighter Project Aircraft

Messerschmitt Bf 109 M-0 Lorin

About Aircraft

At the end of WW II in Europe, Messerschmitt Me 109's inferior performance versus various Alliied Fighter planes (especially North American P-51 D's) became more and more obvious. Even modifications incorporated into the "K" version (seen by some experts as the most powerful of all Me 109 models) didn't really help.

A further increase of speed was seen to be achievable by installing a four bladed propeller and the usage of additional engines. Similar to Focke Wulf Fw 190 A-10 the Me 109 was to get Lorin ram jets installed at the wing tips.

These were under development by the WALTER Company, but not ready for mass usage at the end of the war. The new variant  was to be named Messerschmitt Me 109 M-0, which would have used a Me 109 K airframe and it was hoped that with the a.m. modifications a plane capable to battle Allied fighter planes on even terms would have emerged.

The persisting development problems led to the Me 109 M-0 staying on the drawing board forever.
