WWII USAAF - Fighter / Ground Attack Aircraft

Republic P-47M Thunderbolt "Pencie V"

About Aircraft

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a World War II era fighter aircraft produced by the United States between 1941–1945.

The Thunderbolt was effective as a short-to-medium range escort fighter in high-altitude air-to-air combat and ground attack in both the World War II European and Pacific theaters.

The P-47M was a more conservative attempt to come up with a higher-performance ("Sprint") version of the Thunderbolt, designed to chase V-1 flying bombs, done, in part, by reducing armament from eight .50-caliber Colt-Browning M2 machine guns to six.
